Last night I got a Flip Video camera from Walmart (hooray for proximity). Well it was broken by parents who weren't being careful, so long story short, I had to return it. I return it and open it up to discover that the one I got was a fake.

You know those CNN reports on fake cell phones that are make in some third-world Asian country that knockoff companies make to make a cheap quick buck? Well when I opened my package, that's what my "Flip" camera looked like.

A piece of shit.

I can't begin to tell you how livid I was when I noticed the obvious differences of what they tried to pass off as my $200 purchase.

Basically, if you took dog poo, put a bow tie on it, attached googly eyes, and shaped it like a farm animal and tried to sell it as an art-deco piggy bank, it's still a heaping piece of dog shit.

I go back to the Walmart to return it, only to find out that they have no more in stock. I am absolutely burning up inside, and the sales associate tries to play Dr. Phil and tell me to "take a slow deep breath." I told her that she wasn't helping with a stone cold look and got the point.

So, I was forced to drive 20 minutes to Ypsilanti, only to wait another 20 minutes in the worst return que ever.

You could have put me in an octagon by now.

After having to listen how this woman wanted to get her nails "did" after work, but couldn't because she wanted some Cheetos instead and go to Dots to spend more money she didn't have just made my day that much sweeter. I wanted to quiet her, but I decided not to.

The man in front of me knew where I was coming from and gave me what most would call "the nod" as if he had been there before. Sometimes, the best form of communication is the kind where you don't have to say a single word.

I eventually got my return situated, but with a sour taste in my mouth. I will never shop at Walmart, even if it is the only store within miles from my house. I would gladly go the extra mile for good customer service than have to deal with dishonest, bottom-barrel service.

Lesson learned: If you want to purchase electronics, get them from a place that doesn't sell baby clothes and top soil.

Hi, my name is Jessie. I am currently still finishing up my undergraduate degree. I live and go to college in Indiana. I currently attend IPFW(Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne). I started off three years ago majoring in elementary education, but some things didnt work out and I changed my major to General Studies. Anyways, I wanted to get some advice from a person who has already been accepted to TFA and is going to teach elementary school. I do have a couple of questions for you. What was your gpa(I want to know this because I want to know what kind of gpa I need to have to get accepted to the program just as you have.) Another question I have is "How am I supposed to be able to take the Praxis II when I have not taken any el ed methods courses?" I have already taken and passed all sections of the Praxis I. My third question is "How does a typical day in the life of a TFA elementary go? "Do you teach class in the day and attend college in the late afternoon?" Another question I have is "After a corps member completes their two yrs, are they fully certified and able to get a job at almost any school in their licensure area?" Hopefully someone will be able to get me some answers. Thank you so much and I look forword to hearing back from you.

Jessie

Album of the Week - 5.10.10

Time for another album of the week! I took a bit of a hiatus from these due to focusing on the end of winter semester and then transitioning into a new job/spring classes/etc. As a result, I've gotten a lil bit of time to really look for some new music, and found an album that I haven't been able to stop playing/telling friends about.

This week's pick is Atlanta's, Georgia's latest superstar B.o.B's latest album, "B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray." This album is a refreshing collection of different offerings that creates a caution on my part towards calling B.o.B merely a "rapper." I'd be remised to refer to him as anything but an artist, and this album is truly an eclectic canvas. At 21, B.o.B already has the reining #1 Album on Billboard's album chart this week and the #1 song on Billboard's pop chart. This is quite a feat considering the album dropped a few weeks ago on April 27th.

The album eases you in with a piano infused statement of his presence with "Don't Let Me Fall," which like many other songs on the album features B.o.B's vocal range as a singer as well as lyricist. From there it's the poppy #1 single that just about every one in America has heard at least 5 times, "Nothin' On You" (ft. Bruno Mars). A guest performance by Lupe Fiasco along with live instruments and a bass line that demands movement from the necks of any listener gives "Past My Shades" a memorable, smooth, cool, Lupe-esque vibe that's hard not to like. One of the other highlights of the album is a two part song entitled "Airplanes," a track that's quickly demanding airplay and becoming an internet favorite. I've been a fan of Hayley Williams of Paramore's voice for a while now, and B.o.B made the smart move of being the first to recruit her distinctive sound for the hook, and the latter part (which closes the album) features Detroit's own Eminem. "Bet I" has a beat/vibe that fans of Three-6-Mafia are going to love, along with guests appearances from T.I. & Playboy Tre. At this point you're about halfway through the album and ready to jump into what I believe is the stronger half of the album. "Ghost In The Machine" is a pulled back, intimate view into the mind of B.o.B, again showing off his voice as a singer along with his ability to tickle the ivory on piano. Next are "The Kids"--a unique star on this album that's sure to become a favorite--featuring Janelle Monae, and "Magic" featuring Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, a masterful genre mixer that one can't help but want to move to. The album closes with more live instruments and bangin' bass on "Fame," "Lovelier Than You"--a sure fire ladies' favorite and track for a mix you'd give to that girl you're interested in but are scared to talk to, and a grimy and futuristic sound on "Dimension" featuring Ricco Barrin.

What makes this album special is it's balance. It's created with the perfect blend of when to punch you in the face and when to pull back and groove with you. The different approach of an almost even mix of live and produced instruments stands out and really makes different songs shine, and B.o.B's multi faceted musical talents (singing, rapping, piano, guitar, producing) easily place him among those charting hip hop's future like Drake, Kanye West, etc. Comparisons to Ludacris, TI, and Andre 3000's lyrical styles and swagger are fully understandable, but it's clear that B.o.B is his own artist, and one that should be around for a while.

ALBUM RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

Favorite Feel: "5th Dimension"

Favorite Track: "Ghost In The Machine"/"Magic"

Gotta Try: "Kids"

Catchiest Track: "Magic"

The passed couple of days have been really fun at here, i hate to say it but last night I started to somewhat like dumb dumb (thats my brothers girlfriends new nickname) After a long day at work we went into town to wait for dumb dumb who takes a class at UH which by the way has an amazing campus. What is better then surfer boys with long hair that go to college! I mean who knew they wanted to get out of the water and come on land. UH is all open campus which is very common around theses parts, it's very laid back which is something i enjoy about a college campus. Their newspaper which of course i picked up was also pretty good and had some wonderful stories that even made me laugh out loud a little but that also could have been because i was eating subway and watching the little boy from modern family on Rachel Ray on the TV in the middle of their union. My brother had the idea of getting drinks after dumb dumb was done with class and since I love drinking after being up since 5am nothing sounded better then a cold beer.
Miss. Dumb Dumb and I were on our 5th drink when things started to become clear that the lady was a little drunk. I was pretty worried that after my 6th glass of Blue Moon I would start throwing some words around but I thought about how I still needed a place to stay for the next couple of days. Silly me i thought the first day of being on this island I would have landed a hot surfer with a name like brad to save me from my brother and dumb dumb but that has yet to happen- i still have a couple of more days though guys! Anyways back to Miss. know it all, at this point I really wanted a cig which of course my brother gives me a look like I'm some dirty girl (hair had been washed the night before) who used to love a good cig with a cold beer but then again this is not my brother anymore, this is some dude that goes by the name Austin Phillip Bernstein. It was about nine when we thought it would be a good idea to eat since austin and i both enjoy eating every three hours. However dumb dumb had other ideas for what was about to happen. After telling us that she didn't want any food but to drive around downtown and show me "the city" which is not really a fucking city people. Okay Hawaii is a fucking island with water all around it and some buildings that I don't think have lights in them. SOOO dumb dumb takes the keys from Mr. I have no balls anymore and gets in the drivers seat, of course at this time I'm also feeling pretty good so I yell shotgun and of course Mrs. no balls gets in the back like a good boy..i mean girl?
So Dumb Dumb takes off. Am I a little scared? Not really I was just really worried that Lady Dumb Dumb wasn't going to take us to food and try to get us home so she can get No Balls in the shower for the 10th time this week. 30 mins later we get back to their side of the island, then it happens I see it. I see the place that brings back many wonderful nights and a place I even would call home TACO BELL! I even get a little sad and think about the T-bell back in ypsi and how badly I wish someone with balls had been in the car for this, because there is no body else who would be able to put a smile on my face like that nugget would have been able too. Finally, no balls brother bear says it, the words I have been waiting for "I could go for some Taco Bell" My face lights up just like how it did when i saw the couple smoking crack on the beach. We get to Taco Ball which we go into thinking they have bathrooms for us turns out they don't. At this part I can only think about the pee that is coming out of me and if I want a soft or hard sell taco. Then out of no where Miss. Dumb Dumb driver comes up to me and says "lets just go outside and pee on the grass." I turn a look at Missy with the long legs and tiny tummy and say "Let's go!" as we get outside to the back or T-bell a place I never thought I would end up on a Wed night but then again wouldn't be the first time I went behind a fast food place and peed. Dumb Dumb has no shame in dropping down right next to me but then again why would she? She does have my brothers balls hanging over her side of the bed...
After our little trip outside we get in just in time to see no balls bro getting the bag of t-bell. I love going to the bathroom after ordering food to return only to what I have ordered or a cig break before the food comes. Of course lady dumb dumb has to drive us home. As we pull into the drive way what happens? The girl hits the side of the fucking wall. Does she stop? Does she get upset? Does she yell holy shit!? nope, the girl keeps going! Then realizes what just happened to turn a look at my brother like she some 5 year old that just peed herself. My brother then gets out and has to back his car out from hitting the wall and fix it. Is dumb dumb sorry? Nope, shes laughing like a good dumb dumb would. Is my brother mad? Nope Mr. No Balls is not mad at his girlfriend.
At this point I cant take it and take my t-bell out right there and start to eat it. Thank god i went with the soft sell...

There are also the teachers you hate these are the ones that when you see them you start to talk to someone so you don't even have to chance that they will recognize you. Well today my teacher who I have liked all semester calls like 4 of us up to her office to talk to us one by one and one by one people are coming out pissed off.It turns out she had lost our papers and without them we were fucked we all knew we turned them in but she was saying we didn't. Well this is where she uses her tenure because there is nothing we can do about it if we can complain to the dean. All I can say is I love the I pad even more today than I ever have before, because I had my sister send it to my I pad with the confirmation e-mail the teacher sent with it to show her. I feel bad for the other kids because they are still screwed but at least I am out of this one and I got a B in the class.

Today while i was laying on the beach listening to some oldies off my brothers little radio that i think my dad used back in the 60's i notice a couple to our right. Both in their 50's laughing and joking around with each other both had really great tans. I of course enjoy the beach for two reasons; tanning my jewish white body and people watching. Jeez people watching on a beach is one of a kind. I was lucky enough to witness the couple just a few feet from us who will forever be in my heart. I notice that the women was a little off and was hoping she would ask me to roll around in the sand before jumping into the water, of course only one dream came true today and that was not it. I myself always enjoy a little R&R on the beach, I mean I enjoy a little R&R anywhere really. However this was not like any R&R that we usually see on the beach, this was more like in a back ally in ypsilanti by the elbow room. The cute tan couple not only had some beers but also crack with them. Of course i have never seen anyone in person smoke crack but always wanted too. I enjoy watching people do drugs like that because i get so sick that i know i will never do that.
I swear my brother is getting dumber as the days go on, I really don't think anyone jewish who thinks hes part of the jackson five should be allow out sometimes or for that matter on a beach with crack. My brother who started his love for drugs early and hasn't been down that road in a while looked stocked and scared while we watched the couple pass it back in forth. I on the other hand wanted to go over there and hang out and ask them about a million questions. While we were getting up to leave my brother looks at me and says "i think that was crack, it did not smell like pot. My respond was "Of course you dummy it wasnt pot, do you think i would have just been sitting there watching them if it was pot!" It was wonderful to see that the American dream can still happen today, where a cute older couple get relax on the beach while smoking crack. More to come while the week goes on here out in hawaii. Oh and by the way anyone who wants to fly out here and save me from you know who I will do anything and i mean anything....even crack.
